So its been a while mostly cause I have not had any new additions

lets get right to it

This is my new brain, I got it for the forground ot help fill in the empty spots

I was told it may produce some purples to go with the blue which would be cool but I am happy with the blue

This is my pulsing xenia one of my fav addtions it

this is a unknown coral to me cause I forgot the name lol I will edit when I find it. The picture does not do it justice the colors are wicked.

this is a purple and orange zoo colent frag. I cant wait to see this grow out. the colors are great

and a new fish add a Green chromis well he was green in the store but in my tank he is blue lol go figure

First Loss

Its been a while since my last update by I have stopped adding stuff to the tank (for now lol) and have just allowed stuff to grow.

But I had to update on the loss of my blue star fish.

It is especially sad because this was one of the key things I wanted in the tank.
As I have read they have a higher death rate I will likely not add another one.

Got some new corals over the past week so he is a few pictures

First is what I believe to be green mushroom but they where labeled different in the store
Will check with aa for some confirmation

This is a ricordea florida. I can not get a picture to do it justice when this bad boy is under just the blue lights it looks crazy

Rose bubbletip anemone great deal at 50 bucks and came attached to about a pound of live rock
Sad the clowns have not even tired to explore him.

Torch Coral I put it in the centre of the tank it has four heads and looks great.
Cant wait to see it grow even more.

Rescue Mission and some growth

Have not been doing much upgrades lately as my sons football has kept me busy but I figured I would show some growth pictures and a couple of new adds

First I got a great deal on this blood shrimp

These polyps where sent to me from a friend as a rescuse attempt.
They are doing well now!!

Can see some growth on the star polyp from the last picture (I think lol)

My Frogspawn is growing nicely

and the leather is doing great as well.

So I went on a bit of a spending Spree today even though I just bough a coral yesterday

I have wanted one for ever and I finally found one Blue star

Not sure what this is but it looked cool and I got a great deal.

Got a sweet new leather today I like it alot. Great deal at Big Al's only 24 bucks.

Moved my Gonapora to the left side of the tank because it had to much flow on the right side

seems to be doing better here.

My Mushroom frag is huge and looking great. I love them.

Not sure you can tell but the frogspawn looks like it has grown since the last picture, I also turned it around to have the dead head face the back of my tank

Dam the cleaner is getting big.

So I was looking at my tank yesterday after feeding my fish and I noticed on my live rock a bristle worm. At first I was like cool this is the first one I seen since I set up my tank in December. But as I looked around I saw at least 6-7.

for those of you who don't know they look like little centipedes that crawl in and out of your live rock.

Know they are supposed to be good but I don't like them so I will be getting a 6-Line Warrse which eats them. This is to be sure their population remains in check.

On a side note I have added the Chemi Pure to my tank. I will give it a week or two of running and I will let you know if it makes a difference on my Algae growth.

Pictures next week of hopefully the new addition maybe a coral or two and the growth of my frogspawn.

I was at Big Als on Saturday and I was introduced to a regular by one of the employees named Rob. I was introduced because of my inquires about running skimmers.

I was told by the two fish runners that they do not run skimmers in their tanks and with weekly water changes they dont have problems.

They told me Rob runs 14 tanks and he also does not use any skimmers.

In speaking with Rob he indeed told me he does not run any skimmers or sumps and uses regualr filsters / canisters in all his tanks. He told me that his tanks are over loaded and he has had zero problems

He says his secert is Cemi-pure. He says it takes all the protiens out of the water and swears by it.

I am going to give it a try and will let you know in 3 months my thoughts.

Today we went to aquatic kingdom and come home with a new Gonipora. Sorry Frag guy for 50 bucks for nice big corals I will never be back.

So Friday was pay day and time to try and stock the tank with some corals. I went to Frag guy (the name we call the small local independent fish store guys) hoping to pick up one or two nice big corals but was disappointed with the selection. As the name suggests he seems to be only really a "frag guy"

I did manage to find snails finally got 8 nice sized ones and I got 3 frags for 30 bucks not a bad deal.

I have also decided to remove the hermit crab with anemone as the uncertainty of his possible aggressive behavior was stressing me out. Most likely because I saw one of his brothers eating a start fish today at Big Al's

I came home last night and went to feed the fish and I caught my pencil urchin in the act of kncoking down my coral. I also saw the new crab was out so I decided to snap a few pictures

Couple of problems and some new addtions

It’s been a crazy the past two weeks

My new lights have caused an algae bloom and I have spent the better part of the week staying on top of it while fiddling with the light cycle. I think I am on top of it but I think my system has finally reached the point where I need a skimmer. The top of the tank has a thin layer of floating algae which is very smelly.

In a effort to try and buy me some time until I can get the money to buy a skimmer I have added my HOB filter to increase surface aeration and hopefully pick up some of the extra waste.

I have also purchased a few snails and a really cool Anemia Crab (named pincy) he had a great personality in the store but seems a bit shy in his new home so the pictures are not the cool.

I also purchased my first real Coral. I got this frog spawn last Friday and it lost one of its three heads over the next day or so. But over the past few days it is looking great. Now if I can only keep the pencil urchin from knocking it over.

On a side note I have seen the first off spring off my Mushroom growing underneath of it. This is no doubt from the new light. I am very excited for this to take off.

So I took the plunge and bought the Nova Extreme T5 HO 8 x 54 wattss.

The increase lighting in crazy the fish look so much better,

The pictures are again from my crappy cell phone but I will post some good ones soon.

The begining

Christmas 2008 I got a 75 gallon tank that I decided to make into a Salt water tank...

The goal was to create a reef tank. I have take pictures as the tank has progressed.

from beginning to current state. As the weeks/months progress I will update this with pictures of new additions, success and challenges.

I will also work on taking pictures with a proper camara and not my cell phone for better picture quality.
